aatoth franyo (1954, Nyíregyháza) 1978 óta él és alkot Párizsban, a két „a” betût mûvésznevében egy barátja, Patrick Lévêque emlékére tartotta meg: õ javasolta, hogy talán így a legegyszerûbb egy festõnek az ábécésorrendet tiszteletben tartó katalógusok elejére kerülni! Mára aatoth franyó mûveit kiállították Budapesttõl UlanBatorig, Tianjintõl egészen Chicagoig. A Kelet és Nyugat között "oszcilláló" mûvész 1989-ben kulturális kapcsolatot létesített az annak idején hermetikusan zárt Mongólia és Franciaország között az UNESCO közremûködésével, készített animációs filmeket a francia ARTE tévécsatornának. Ínyenceket megörvendeztetõ alkoholetnológiai kutatásának gyümölcse, „Az utazó alkoholista kéziszótára” Magyarországon több kiadásban is megjelent s számos külföldi kiadást is megért ( "Le petit ivre rouge", "The dictionary of traveling Barflies").



aatoth franyó markáns vörös hátterû vásznain a réteges, „visszakapart” és újra átfestett felület igényes kidolgozása teret és idõt teremt az ábrázolt figurák mögé. Ez a felület expresszivitással, az ArtBrut groteszk, olykor komor témákat iróniával feloldó játékosságát idézõ, sajátos jelentéssel bír. A felületek fölött kibontakozó apró történetek (Ádám és Éva röntgenvizsgálaton, Very Happy People, Bad News, Fagyizó terroristák), mindennapi események példázatszerû átiratait jelentik a mûvész számára. A festményeken általában csak néhány figura, tárgy vagy növény jelenik meg, az alapba gyakran kalligrafikus jeleket karcol, mely tükrözi franyó keleti kultúrák iránti affinitását. Képeit teleírja játékos, titokzatos, megfejtésre váró szövegekkel - a festmények szemet gyönyörködtetõ részletei közt nagy türelemmel lehet kiolvasni a belekarcolt, gyakran hátérbe olvadó, ritmusosan hullámzó, saját életüket élõ betûket.

A megnyitó alkalmából a Várfok Galéria 52 oldalas katalógust jelentet meg, a megnyitón s az azt követõ szombat délután aatoth franyó dedikálja "Heartbeats" és "Fagyizó terroristák” címû, korlátozott példányszámban kiadott, számozott litográfiáit!

Ray Monde: új corps címû kiállítása, 2008. január 8. kedd, 18 óra



RAY MONDE 1981 óta Párizsban él és dolgozik, a luxembourgi születésû mûvésznõ festészete és grafikái mellett performerként is tevékenykedik, installáció -és fotómûvészettel foglalkozik. Ray Monde elõször 2006. januárjában állított ki a Várfok Galériában a nõi- és a férfi test tematikáját boncolgató sorozatával. Ray Monde mûvészetének meghatározó kiindulópontja egy gyermekkori álom egy teremtés elõtti vagy éppen teremtés utáni pillanatról. Ezt a világot szeretné megtölteni a testtel, az egyetlen dologgal, amirõl érzéki tapasztalattal rendelkezhetünk. Ray Monde kritikusai szerint Francis Bacon hozzáállásával festi meg naturalisztikus, igazság/valóság keresõ, lecsupaszított festményeit. A mûvészt idézve, „a ma nagyon elterjedt rögeszme egy tökéletes és ideális testrõl, tehát tulajdonképpen egy isteni test gondolatáról, még mindig—legalábbis

Nyugaton, a régi transzcendentális modellel rendelkezõ hithez tartozik. Eljött végre az idõ, hogy megszabaduljunk a közös nevezõtõl, és hogy átlényegüljünk egy fénnyel táplálkozó diskurzussá.” Ebben az értelemben Ray Monde képeire, mint az értékek felborulásának eredeteként tekinthetünk, melyben ettõl kezdve anyagról, földrõl, halomról, sárról, testrészekrõl lesz szó. A luxembourgi mûvésznõ munkáit ez alkalommal a Várfok Terem kiállítóterében élvezheti a magyar nézõközönség.

aatoth franyo (1954, Nyíregyháza) lives and works in Paris since 1978. The two letters „a” have been added to his artistic pseudonym after the suggestion of a dear personal friend, Patrick Lévêque, who once noted that the easiest was for a painter to come first in art catalogues (which follow the alphabetic order) is to pick the letter „a”!!! By now, aatoth franyó’s works have been exhibited worldwide, from UlanBatar, Tianjin to Chicago. The artist, who perpetually oscillated between West and East, established cultural relations in 1989 between France and the then hermetically isolated Mongolia with the help of UNESCO, but he also created animations for the French TV channel ARTE, and his unique dictionary, a so-cherished delicacy for hedonists, entitled „The dictionary of traveling barflies” is a unique treausure in the ethnography of alcohol consumption, published in multiple editions in Hungary and circulating in several countries abroad ( "Le petit ivre rouge" )

The subtle surfaces, sctarched and layered with a piquant hue of red create a sense of space and time for the minute figures represented in aatoth franyó’s canvases. His surfaces possess the expressive power of ArtBrut, tackling often sordid themes with a playful sense of irony. The short stories that unfold above the red surfaces (Adam and Eve at the Xray screening, Very Happy People, Bad News, Terrorists licking ice-cream), are prophetic re-makes of everyday events. The canvases often depict only one or two figures, and the background is filled with calligraphic signs, that reflect franyó’s affinity to eastern cultures. He fills his paintings with playful, mysterious, texts waiting to be deciphered – among the exquisite details of the paintings, the viewer deciphers the letters that seem to come to life and follow organic rhythms.

On the occasion of the vernissage, Várfok Galéria publishes a 52-pages long catalogue , aatoth franyó signs

his Limited edition lithographs, entitled "Heartbeats" and „Terrorists licking icre-cream” at the vernissage

and the following Saturday afternoon.

RAY MONDE lives and works in Paris since 1981, the artist, born in Luxembourg, is active not only in painting and graphic works but also does performance art, installations and photography. Ray Monde exhibited in Várfok Galéria first time in 2006. January, featuring her series of works addressing the modes of representation of female and male body. A vantage point of Ray Monde’s art is a childhood dream, about the moment after, or before, Genesis. She desires to fill this world with the body, the only thing we have sensory (and sensual) experience of. According to her critics, Ray Monde paints her works with the attitude of Francis Bacon, in naturalist style, always seeking truth and reality through her revealing works. With the artist’s words: „the so popular anxiety about a perfect and ideal body, that is, indeed, the concept of a divine body, is still—at least in the West—the remnant of the ancient faith of transcendental model. Time has come for all of us to get rid of this common denominator and transcend to a discourse nourished with light.” In this sense we can ponder over Ray Monde’s works, as the origins of the rebirth of values, which, from now on, tackle the themes of worldly matter, earth, mud, and parts of the body. The works of the Luxembourgean artist can this time be enjoyed by the Hungarian public at Várfok exhibition hall.
