ENDRE ROZSDA EXHIBITION AT THE PÉCSI KISGALÉRIA
25th September 2009 – 18th October

„ENDRE ROZSDA – THE DEAN OF SURREALISM”
Opening: Friday, 25th September 2009, 5 p.m.
Location: PÉCSI KISGALÉRIA
7621 Pécs, Szent István tér 4.

Endre Rozsda passed away on 16th September 1999 in Paris. This year, in occasion of the tenth anniversary of his death, Várfok Gallery has wanted to wide-spread the diversity of his art through an important exhibition series. During Spring, in organization of Várfok Gallery, his art works were presented in four different locations between mid-April to 23rd May: early paintings (Várnegyed Gallery) and paper works (Várfok Gallery – Várfok Hall), works from the Surrealistic period (Várfok Gallery – XO Hall) and an extensive outdoor exhibition completed with guiding texts (Gallery 19) were to be seen. The visitors could get a better knowledge of Endre Rozsda’s art and of the European School due to the film projections parallel to the exhibitions. The symposium organised at the end of April with the participation of experts gave the opportunity to discuss publicly the place occupied by Endre Rozsda’s art within Hungarian and international history of art. Parallel to the events of Várfok Gallery the French Institute of Budapest presented the less known photographic activity of Rozsda (curator: Károly Kincses). Meanwhile, Júlia Cserba organised in Budapest Gallery an exhibition entitled Rozsda’s dreams, showing a selection of Rozsda’s paintings and paper works to be found in public and private collections. Currently two exhibitions (until 26th September 2009) commemorate Rozsda’s art in Paris (Galerie La Hune Brenner, Espace Bateau Lavoir) – the exhibitions are under the high patronage of His Excellency László Nikicser, Hungarian embassador in Paris.

Opening on 25th September, the exhibition in Pécs, realised with the collaboration of Várfok Gallery will present paintings from public and private collections as well as paper works, and will include film projections. The exhibition’s aim is to show an extensive idea of the conformation of Rozsda’s art, this way the visitors can discover works of the very young Rozsda from early ’30’s, while they can take a look at the caleidoscope-like paintings shot with philosophy made by the old Rozsda.
